Europe - 14 Days Germany to Italy

MUNICH

HOTEL - Holiday City Center: walking distance to downtown, had modern bar and restaurant, located above a shopping center and train station, parking available- super tight spots indoor garage for a fee.

Airport Hotel Ibis; decent bar/ restaurant, small efficiency type rooms, free parking. Good place to just stay one night before an early flight.

TRAVEL - rental car from SIXT (gotta get a BMW for the Autobahn!)

SALZBURG

HOTEL - Motel 1 Mirabel, walking distance to downtown. Bar downstairs, smaller efficiency type rooms. Free reserved parking

TRAVEL - Still had Rental car

FLORENCE

HOTEL - Stayed at wonderful Airbnb “Mamo Florence”, close to Basilica de Santa Maria. Clean, modern, good layout and amenities. Good location.

TRAVEL - Flew into the airport, taxi to hotel, walk around town.

CAPRI

HOTEL - Stayed at Airbnb “Norma house”; chose for its size and layout, however one bathroom was unusable due to electric problem. Clothes washers were never available and general cleanliness left something to be desired. Location was good- lots of steps to get here.

TRAVEL - took a train to Naples, got a little perplexed finding a taxi but eventually got one to the ferry, then ferried to Island of Capri. Also took the ferry back to Positano.

ALMALFI

HOTEL - Hotel Aurora; had multiple rooms. Nice location for us near the pier and walking level to town. Accommodations were clean and modern, attentive staff. Great breakfast included on the outside patio.

TRAVEL - Hired a private car with Gennaro of Amalfi Car Service for most transfers and a private tour of the coast up to Ravello, and back to the Naples airport. Highly recommend- he knows this area well! https://gennarofuscolimos.it/

VENICE

HOTEL - Airbnb we picked out had electric problems and cancelled on us the day before we arrived. The super host was able to get another Airbnb for us, so in the end it worked out, but we probably wouldn’t have recommended this place for our group because of all the stairs and the layout for a group our size. Electricity can be a problem in Venice,  and worth consideration is that public restrooms are in short supply, so you may want your location to be where you plan on spending most of your time.

TRAVEL -  We flew from Naples to Venice, then took a water taxi in for the experience and view. You walk everywhere on Venice- its wonderful. At the end of the visit, we took a ferry back to the airport. When doing so it is important to buy your ticket ahead of time for the correct ferry, or have lots of cash for exact change! We saw a couple who bought tickets to the wrong ferry and then didn’t have enough cash for the correct ferry get denied entry to the boat. You can miss your flight! It happened all so fast or I’m sure people would’ve floated them enough money, but these ferries don’t dawdle, you need to act efficiently.
